Getting to the Land of Vitality ⛵️

Published almost 2 years ago • 2 min read

Back in the day, our relationship with food was simple.
The food you ate was 20 feet from your dining table in a garden, chicken coop, and pasture.
We ate real food that nourished us.

Fast forward to today, and our food system is controlled by corporations. And like any corporation, their goal is to make money for their shareholders. So they get people to eat as much food as possible by engineering highly addictive food through chemical additives. Then, they make it ubiquitous through mass marketing. Think, coke = happiness campaigns, celebrity endorsements, billboards/commercials.

We all grew up in this reality and it shaped our habits. I remember growing up downing fruit roll ups, bagel bites and pringles without thought.

Think of it like this: Until now, you've been living on the island of Big Food. On this island you've been sold a message of indulgence and consumption. It's been normal. But eventually, you've realized you aren't thriving. In fact, the island has actively been keeping you from the life you want.

So you venture to the shores and see a land in the distance: The Land of Vitality.
On this island, your lifestyle leads you to flourish in mind, body and spirit.

You know you can’t stay where you are so you start swimming. Along the way, you come across rafts to help in the journey. These rafts are any small or big health habit, from daily walking to Whole 30.

Maybe you've come across a raft that is a more intense diet like keto, vegan or carnivore. These things are hotly debated but they are all good as long as you see them as a raft and not the island. It's taking you in the right direction but it's not the destination.

The end-game for your health is not a restrictive diet. It's just a means to help you get to the Land of Vitality.

Once your on the land, it’s about creating a lifestyle of health that is sustainable and enjoyable.
Wellness is a holistic picture; you get to learn what your body needs to support your life and calling.

TAKEAWAY:

So the question is, if you’ve decided to leave the island and start swimming, what is a raft that you can grab onto to help in your journey?

  • Daily walking
  • Water filtration
  • Daily sunlight
  • Cooking 2-3 meals at home
  • More farmers markets, less grocery stores
  • Non-toxic cleaning supplies

These rafts affirm that you are headed in the right direction. When you do these little things, it opens up your capacity to take greater steps into health.

Before you know it, you won’t have imagined life any other way.
Remember, it doesn’t all happen at once. It’s a JOURNEY. All you need to focus on is the next step.

To the land of vitality we go,
TOMMY

Generational Health In the last newsletter, we talked about how we have more access to health information than ever before, yet overall health is declining. In this newsletter, I will share two fundamental reasons for this struggle and propose a new way of thinking about health. Two reasons: 1. Focus on the Individual 2. Lack of Culture 1. Focus on the Individual Our current health paradigm centers on the individual. Your six-pack abs, your 12-week weight loss program, etc... None of it is...

I've been in the health world for over 12+ years: competing as a pro athlete, working through chronic pain, building a company in the health/supplement space, training people, and working with health influencers. And there is a giant gap in all of it. Working with health influencers, I've noticed many of them are depleted of energy and struggle immensely with body-image issues. The more they obsess over their health, the more they struggle. And in that I realized something. In this endless...

Chances are when you read "fat free" on a label, you assume it's the healthier choice. This is wrong. This is the story of how we got duped into believing we should avoid fat: The story begins in the 1950s with a growing public health problem that needed an answer: heart disease. Journalist Nina Teicholz recounts: "The disease had appeared seemingly out of nowhere and had grown quickly to become the nation's leading cause of death." That all changed when a scientist named Nacel Keys, a...
